Program Structure

Levels and Courses

5 – levels from beginning to advanced:

  • Levels 1, 2, and 3 concentrate on speaking, listening, grammar, reading, and writing.
    • Level 1: IEL 040 (Grammar and Reading I, 10 credits), IEL 045 (Speaking and Listening I, 10 credits)
    • Level 2: IEL 050 (Grammar and Reading II, 10 credits), IEL 055 (Speaking and Listening II, 10 credits)
    • Level 3: IEL 060 (Reading III, 5 credits), IEL 061 (Writing III, 5 credits), IEL 065 (Speaking and Listening III, 10 credits)
  • Level 4 concentrates on reading, writing, advanced pronunciation, and Orientation to College Success (college level course)
    • Level 4: IEL 070 (Reading IV, 5 credits), IEL 071 (Writing IV, 10 credits), IEL 076 (Speaking, Pronunciation, Listening, and Note taking 5 credits), ISD 200 (Orientation to College Success, 2 credits)
  • Level 5 concentrates on academic writing and reading with one college level class.
    • Level 5: IEL 080 (Reading V, 5 credits), IEL 081 (Writing V, 10 credits)
  • The program includes 4 instructional hours a day, 5 days a week during fall, winter and spring quarters. The quarters are 10-weeks long. Summer quarter is an accelerated 8-week program with 6 hours a day, 4 days a week.
  • 20 hours a week of instruction
  • Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer intake
