As an open-enrollment institution, South Seattle College welcomes students of all English proficiency levels. TOEFL and/or IELTS scores are NOT required for admission. Students who do not submit proof of English proficiency with their application will take a placement test during Orientation. If we determine that a student needs additional English instruction, they will enroll in our Intensive English Program.
South accepts TOEFL and IELTS scores as optional measures of English proficiency. If you have a qualifying TOEFL or IELTS score, please email a copy of your score report to IPAdmissions@seattlecolleges.edu for review. You can also submit SAT/ACT scores or transcripts to qualify for direct placement into college-level programs.
Note: Due to Covid-19, ETS and IELTS are now offering at-home editions of their proficiency tests. For more details, please visit https://www.ets.org/s/cv/toefl/at-home/ and https://www.ielts.org/en-us/what-is-ielts/ielts-indicator.
Upon arriving in Seattle, students with Bridge-level scores will take the IEP Placement test. Students scoring above their initial placement will be moved to higher levels, including full-time college. Students scoring two or more levels below their initial placement will enroll in classes according to their placement test results.
